About Sarai
A trading house for honest goods
Sarai buys in the United States, tests and grades every item there, and sells it in Kabul by auction, with every defect shown.
Why the name
A sarai, or caravanserai, was a trading house on the Silk Road. Traders stopped there, met each other, inspected the goods and agreed a price.
The word is the same in Dari and Pashto. We chose it because we want to work the same way: goods you can inspect, and a price agreed in the open.
What Sarai is
Sarai is a new company. We buy used and returned phones and laptops in the United States, test and grade each one there, and ship them to Kabul.
In Kabul we sell them by online auction: single items to anyone with a mobile number, and lots and pallets to verified bidders. You bid from your own phone. Traders, companies and auction houses can sell through Sarai too, under the same rules.
How we work
Three promises we build everything else on.
Honest condition reports
Every listing shows the grade, the test results and a photo of each defect we found. Nothing is hidden.
Inspect before you pay
At our Kabul counter you turn the device on and check it before you pay the rest.
Fair-trade rules
Bidding is free, nobody connected to Sarai may bid, and every bid is recorded. A scholar will review the rules before we open.
What comes later
We open in Kabul in January 2027 with smartphones, laptops and lots. After that:
Clothing and more categories
More kinds of goods, checked and described with the same care.
Live sessions and partner auctions
Live auctions for big lots, and wholesale auctions from partner companies that verified bidders can bid on from Sarai.
